Data Analyst resume examples

Data analyst postings ask how long you've used a tool and in which field, so each bullet here pairs SQL, Tableau or Power BI with the claims, inventory or fraud data it ran on. The 12 examples differ by career stage and by setting, with healthcare, supply chain, county government, banking, product and BI work each built around its own reports.

A mid-level analyst who owns the Monday report

Lakshmi Subramaniam has 4 years of SQL and Tableau work in meal-kit fulfillment and logistics software. Her first bullet names the report, its 31 readers and its Monday deadline, and the second names the check she runs before each refresh.

Copy this layout if most of your week goes to recurring reporting and ad-hoc requests. Swap in your own report names, audience counts and turnaround times, and keep the data source in every line.

Match your level, data and tools

Each resume below works with a different kind of data. Pick the one closest to the data you handle now or want to handle next, then copy its bullet structure and replace the numbers with your own.

Junior Data Analyst

Entry-level data analyst with one year in insurance

Tobenna lists his capstone as a dated entry with a row count and a model result, then shows a first job writing SQL against an agency management system and keeping a renewal tracker for about 2,300 policies. Use it if you have a statistics or math degree and about a year of analyst work.

  • Capstone with 86,000 rows and a regression result
  • Excel renewal tracker covering 2,300 policies
Data Analyst Intern

Data analyst intern with BigQuery and Tableau work

Hannah's GPA sits in the degree line, her summer internship names the 18 stores and the planning meeting that used her dashboard, and a campus research job shows careful data merging with row counts checked after every merge. Use it for a 2027 summer internship if you're a sophomore or junior studying business analytics, statistics or economics.

  • SQL in Google BigQuery across 18 stores
  • GPA 3.7 shown with the degree
Senior Data Analyst

Senior data analyst who sets company metrics

Callum leads with 24 metric definitions, the weekly executive review for the CEO and 7 department heads, and a quarterly revenue reconciliation with finance held under 0.5%, then shows mentoring through weekly code reviews. It suits analysts with 7 or more years who now decide what gets measured and in what order.

  • 24 metrics in a glossary reviewed by 3 departments
  • Mentors 2 analysts through weekly SQL code reviews
Healthcare Data Analyst

Healthcare data analyst at a health plan

Elena names Medicare Advantage and Medicaid claims in her summary and first bullet, the validation step before each Tableau refresh, and how she limits member-level extracts. Her quality reports name the screening measures she tracks by provider group. Use it for health plan or payer analytics roles that ask for claims experience.

  • SQL on claims for 210,000 members
  • Source validation before every refresh
Supply Chain Data Analyst

Supply chain data analyst across 6 distribution centers

Tom's bullets turn order forecasts into shift headcount for 6 distribution centers, track units per labor hour against plan and compare cycle counts with system on-hand for 48,000 SKUs. An earlier role finds 340 SKUs with no movement in 12 months, which supported a write-down. Use it if you report on warehouses, inventory or merchandising.

  • Daily labor plan for 6 distribution centers
  • Inventory accuracy dashboard for 48,000 SKUs
Program Data Analyst

Government data analyst with a Power BI certification

Aisha names 3 of her 5 county programs, row-level security for supervisors and suppression of small public counts, with her current Power BI certification in its own section. An earlier role merges 2,600 duplicate person records across 3 case systems. Use it for county, state or nonprofit roles that handle confidential client data.

  • Power BI outcomes reports for 5 programs
  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate, renewed 2026
Fraud Data Analyst

Financial data analyst in bank fraud reporting

Minjun breaks fraud losses out by debit card, ACH, wire and check, gives his rule tests a catch rate and a false positive rate, and lists the samples he pulls for internal audit. His Python joins about 3 million card authorizations a day to case outcomes. Use it for fraud, risk or compliance analytics roles at banks, card issuers and brokerages.

  • 9 detection rules tested each quarter
  • Weekly false alerts cut by 31%
Data Analyst

Career change data analyst from accounts receivable

Laura keeps 8 years of AR work on the page and puts the Excel and SQL reporting she built there first in those bullets, then adds a public Tableau project with a link. Use it if you built reports inside a nonanalyst job and are moving into your first analyst title.

  • SQL on ERP data while still an AR supervisor
  • Public Tableau project with a portfolio link
Product Data Analyst

Product data analyst for a subscription app

Sofia's readouts give the test count, the screens tested and sample sizes set before launch, and one bullet shows the data check for sample ratio mismatch that runs before any result is shared. A funnel bullet ties her work to a rise in annual plan uptake. Use it for growth, product or marketing analytics roles that work in Looker and Amplitude.

  • About 3 A/B test readouts a month
  • Annual plan uptake raised from 22% to 29%
Statistical Data Analyst

Statistical data analyst in institutional research

Jamal leads with his MS and lists survey weighting, retention models and a SAS to Python and R migration with a progress count of 26 of 32 programs. His first bullet covers the enrollment and graduation tables sent to IPEDS. Use it if your work leans on statistical methods, survey data or research reporting.

  • 32 SAS programs moving to Python and R
  • Survey of 5,800 responses weighted by 3 variables
Business Intelligence Analyst

BI data analyst who runs the Power BI platform

Rachel's bullets cover workspace, gateway and permission administration for 400 users, star-schema models with DAX measures for scrap rate and on-time delivery, and nightly stored procedures with failure alerts. Use it for BI analyst or BI developer postings that ask you to administer the platform as well as build reports, especially in manufacturing.

  • 18 workspaces and 2 gateways for 400 users
  • 45 SQL Server stored procedures

Pair every tool with the data it touched

Name the tools the posting names, and put each one in a bullet with the dataset, its size and who used the result. Postings in this field screen on years with a tool and years in a subject. One health plan posting asked for two years each with Tableau or Excel and with Medicaid and Medicare, and a county BI posting asked how many years you had built Power BI or Tableau dashboards.

Write the tool and the data together, as in "SQL on Medicare Advantage and Medicaid claims for 210,000 members" or "Tableau inventory accuracy dashboard for 48,000 SKUs." Name the platform when the posting does, such as Snowflake, Google BigQuery or SQL Server, because "SQL" alone doesn't show which environment you know.

Repeat a tool under each job where you used it, so the dates show how many years you have with it. Keep the skills list to tools you could use in a technical screen tomorrow. A tool you touched once in a course belongs on an intern or entry-level resume only.

Show what you own after the dashboard ships

Write recurring reports as work you own, with the report name, the people who read it and how often it runs. One senior supply chain posting split the job into 30% new dashboards and ad-hoc requests, 20% existing reporting, 20% quality checks and 20% presenting findings. A resume that lists only new builds covers about a third of that job.

For each report, give its cadence and deadline ("published every Monday by 8 a.m.") and its audience count ("31 regional and account managers"). For data checks, name what you compare and against which source, such as shipment counts against billing or claims extracts against paid totals.

For ad-hoc work, give a monthly volume or a turnaround time, because "handled ad-hoc requests" says nothing about pace. Maintenance counts too. Retiring 63 unused reports or documenting 60 report fields tells a manager you'll keep their reporting clean.

Names the report, readers, check and pace

Own the weekly sales and operations report for 31 regional and account managers in Tableau, reconcile shipment counts with billing before each Monday refresh, and answer ad-hoc requests in a median of 2 business days.

Lists a tool and a vague audience

Created dashboards in Tableau to provide insights to stakeholders and support data-driven decisions.

Use the industry's own data terms in each bullet

Show industry experience through the data, rules and users of that field. An employer name alone won't tell a screener what you worked on. Postings ask for it directly: two years of Medicaid and Medicare work at one health plan, 2 or more years in financial services for a fraud analytics team, and supply chain, merchandising or operations experience for a retail analyst.

In healthcare, name the claim types (Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, pharmacy), the member count and the care management or quality team that used the report. Add one line on how you handle protected health information, such as limiting extracts to the fields a request needs.

In supply chain and retail, give the number of distribution centers or stores, the SKU count and the operating metric you report. Units per labor hour, forward-pick stockouts and markdown sell-through all tell a hiring manager you know the floor.

In the public sector, list programs by name, the confidentiality rule you apply and who reads your summaries. Row-level security for supervisors and suppressing counts under 11 are concrete examples, and a board of county commissioners is a specific audience. County postings ask about handling confidential information, so this line answers a screening question.

In financial services, break losses or volumes out by channel, such as debit card, ACH, wire and check. Give rule tests a catch rate and a false positive rate, and mention the samples you pull for internal audit or control testing.

Industry experience from a nonanalyst job still counts. A former AR supervisor can name aging, cash application and days sales outstanding in the summary of a first analyst resume.

What replaces years on an intern or new-grad resume

Put your strongest data work first, whether it's an internship, a capstone or a campus job, and describe it the way you'd describe paid analyst work. A capstone with a dataset size, a method and a result reads as experience.

List the capstone as a dated entry with its partner, row count and outcome, as in "Analyzed 2 years of visit records (86,000 rows) for a local food pantry network." Give the model result and who used it, such as a regression that explained 71% of the variation in weekly visit volume and helped the partner plan volunteer shifts.

Name the exact environment from coursework or an internship, such as SQL in Google BigQuery, because intern postings list it alongside Python, Tableau and statistics. For a dashboard, say who used it and in which meeting, not only the chart type.

Show your GPA if it's 3.0 or higher and you're still in school or within a year of graduating. One large retailer's 2027 analytics internship lists a GPA of 3.0 or above as preferred, though that's one employer's preference. Drop the GPA after your first full-time analyst job.

Campus research and assistant jobs count when they involve cleaning, merging or summarizing data. Write what you merged, how you checked it, such as row counts after every merge, and who used the tables.

Senior means you set the definitions others report on

A senior data analyst resume shows decisions about what the team measures and builds, while a mid-level resume shows the reports you deliver. Senior postings also ask for more time in the field. A health plan consultant posting and a county senior analyst posting each asked for 5 years of analysis experience, and the county accepted a bachelor's degree in place of 2 of those years.

Name the metrics you defined and who agreed to them, as in "24 company metrics in a glossary that finance, marketing and operations review each quarter." Then name the executive meeting your work feeds and its audience, such as a weekly business review for the CEO and 7 department heads.

Show mentoring with its method and a count: weekly SQL code reviews for 2 analysts, or a release checklist that new dashboards must pass. Write "mentor" with those details and keep your real title in the job heading.

Add prioritization if you run the request queue: how many requests a quarter, from how many teams, and how you ranked them. Reconciling your numbers with the finance ledger is another senior signal, because leaders quote those figures in their own meetings.
